How a series of unexpected events catapulted the lives of these people is the rest of the story. Among them are two colossal figures Rajini Murugan’s grandfather, played by Raj Kiran, and Ealrai Mukkan, played by Samuthirakani. The elders around them are very hot tempered and sensitive in nature and a spark is enough to burn the city down. The duo leads a carefree and weightless existence in an emotionally tensed and swollen city, Madhura. The movie is all about Rajini Murugan, played by Siva Karthikeyan and his sidekick PK Soori, played by Soori. The movie exploits Siva Karthikeyan’s emergence as “the super hero of the downtrodden” image to its maximum and that pays off well in the theater.ĭirector Ponram focuses more on the treatment side rather than the story. Their latest outing with the Varuthappedatha Valibar Sangham director Ponram, Rajini Murugan is a tightly packed Pongal pack with all the ingredients like comedy, glamour, action, sentiments, and romance. A fun-film and an unabashed entertainer, ‘Rajini Murugan’ is an ideal festival watch.Siva Karthikeyan and Soori are in town with their Pongal Kondattam after so many postponements and hurdles. For, an unpretentious, engagingly crafted formulaic flick is far better than a shoddily etched pretentious fare. But then seeing how eminent directors fall short in their attempt at making out-of-the-box fares, one feels gladdened that the pot boilers are here to stay. Many a time watching mindless commercial entertainers catering to the masses, one yearns to see something different, and meaningful. While thefirst part sustains a speedy momentum, the narration slackens in the second half. The songs (Imman) peppy and rustic in flavour, are mostly well placed except for the last one that seems to be thrust in forcibly. But thankfully the director keeps a strong hold on the happenings here, without letting it seep into unnecessary melodrama. His ruse to bring his huge scattered family to the ancestral home works. Rajkiran who was on the sidelines in the earlier part gets his space in the second half. Samuthirakani as Mookkan falls in line with the feel of the film, his character more of a fraudster than a thug who terrorises. Murugan’s dabbling in the real estate business to better his fortunes, gets him into confrontation with Mookkan the local thug. Brand placement in the earlier part is the on-your-face kind. Humorous situations and witty lines mark these episodes. Their fathers being best friends-turned- foes, she is wary of encouraging him. Murugan in love with childhood pal Karthika, woos her relentlessly despite her blow hot-blow cold attitude towards him.
